Augmentation

The breast augmentation procedure is one of the most spectacular achievements of plastic surgery. With the right implants it may visibly but also very naturally correct both the size and the shape of breasts. Currently the most commonly used implants are saline and silicone implants. You and your doctor choose the appropriate implants during a visit.

Breast augmentation is carried

out under general anaesthesia.

Most often, the skin incision is made around the areola or in the inframammary fold. The transaxillary incision carries an increased risk of complication, therefore it is used a lot less frequently. Currently, if possible, the implant is placed under the pectoralis major and its costal attachments are dissected. This location guarantees the most natural effect, as it increases the number of tissues covering the implant.

This is especially important in very slim people. The space designed for the implant must be precisely measured and dissected and all the bleeding vessels must be closed. After placing the implant, the wound is sutured in layers, and intradermal sutures are used in the skin to obtain the smallest and the least visible scar.

The procedure is completed with dressing the wound and putting on a special bra which aims at shaping the final appearance of the breasts. It should be worn 24/7 for one month. This bra is first taken off at the clinic when the sutures are taken out 7 days after the procedure. Following that, it can be removed at home for baths or to be washed. In the first days after the procedure, breasts are a little swollen, harder and unnaturally protruding.

With time, however, they become natural in appearance, touch and feel. What can prove very useful at this stage are exercises, moves and recreational activities recommended by our physiotherapist. They bring important relief when done as recommended. 2 weeks following the procedure, Plastic Scar Management programme can be started, which further decreases the visibility of the scar and makes breasts softer. The final outcome of the procedure is visible after approximately 3 months.
