The ear reshaping surgery or otoplasty is performed to correct earlobe defects or to decrease or increase earlobes, for instance, when ears are folded. Depending on a patient age, the procedure is performed under a local or general anaesthesia. An incision is made on the backside of the ear to uncover cartilage.

 

The ear cartilage is restructured and statures are placed to stabilize the remodelled ear shape.  The cutaneous wound is stitched up and a dressing is applied.

After the surgery, your ears may be swollen and slightly bruised but swelling and bruising should disappear after 10-14 days. Your dressing is usually changed 2 days after the surgery. Sutures are removed between the 3rd and 8th day after the surgery and a head dressing is replaced with a head band.

When the surgery is performed under a local anaesthesia, you may leave the clinic immediately after the procedure. When the surgery is performed under a general anaesthesia you need to stay in our clinic at least for a few hours.

 

You need to protect your ears against any trauma for a few weeks after the surgery.
